It has become extremely clear that the South Indian audience are coming out to watch films in theatres in big numbers only if they see adequate promise. But there is a detrimental factor here, and that is primarily due to the OTT culture.

It has reached a point where the audience are looking to patiently wait for films to arrive in OTT rather than go watch it in theatres. This was previously established multiple times as several films got affected with the audience looking to wait for OTT debut.

However, certain films have been able to crack this code by delaying the OTT release of their films. We have observed this in the case of films like Pushpa 2 and Kalki, which arrived very belatedly on OTT.

The makers of these films were very conscious about the OTT release timeline as they wanted the audience to experience these films and theatres. This happened when they went out of their way to cancel the standard four weeks OTT release agreement and went for eight weeks.

After the tremendous success of this strategy, something interesting is happening now as it is being established that NTR and Prashanth Neel film is also going this way.

It has become a need of the hour for several other films to go on this path in order to captivate the audience and bring them to theatres. This is one serious way to give a strong indication to the audience that these big films will not stream on OTT just 4 weeks after the release. This delay mechanism could bring the audience to theatres as they will feel a fear of missing out.

Considering the fact that this eight week program is becoming increasingly prevalent, it has to be seen how this scenario would turn out in the future.
