Friday Talk: A Surprising Takeover From Sree Vishnu
Though the film didn’t create a big noise theatrically, its content-driven narrative is now finding takers on OTT;
While films like Sharwanand’s Biker and Niharika Konidela’s RaaKaaSaa have been released in theatres today, a large section of the audience is choosing comfort viewing on the Good Friday holiday. And guess what, a thriller that was recently rejected in theatres has become their pick for home watching. That’s how some films are getting life on OTT, and here’s an interesting snippet.
Unexpectedly, Sree Vishnu’s recent outing, Mrithyunjay, has started streaming on Netflix from April 3rd, and the timing couldn’t have been better. With the Good Friday holiday in place, many people chose to stay indoors and catch a film at home rather than step out into the heat. Directed by Sukumar’s protege Hussain Shah Kiran, Mrithyunjay released in theatres on March 6, 2026, but had only a modest run, collecting around ₹3 crore in its opening weekend. Though the response was decent, it’s not strong enough to sustain big theatrical numbers.
Though the film didn’t create a big noise theatrically, its content-driven narrative is now finding takers on OTT, where word of mouth travels differently through social media. It’s too early to say if this will be a classic case of a film getting a second life after its theatrical run, but then, if the film gets good attention for these three days, which happen to be holidays, surely Mrithyunjay would get into the Top 10 lists.
