Rajamouli Should Focus On His Assistants

From Surya Pratap Palanati, who carved Kumari 21F to Virupaksha’s Karthik Varma, Dasara’s Srikanth Odela and Peddi’s Buchi Babu Sana, the only common factor is that they are the assistant directors of star filmmaker Sukumar. Well, most of the time, Sukumar himself is pushing his assistants to make movies and is collaborating with producers through the Sukumar Writings banner. While this star director is making his assistants into full-fledged directors, what about the other legend, SS Rajamouli?

Hardly 2-3 assistants of Rajamouli have made films till now, and most of them are also unsuccessful. Almost a decade ago, his assistant DS Kannan made Sarai Veerajjju, and then his co-director Trikoti, who carved out Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya, came into light and disappeared. Later, another AD of Rajamouli, Ashwin Gangaraju, who happens to be son of filmmaker Gunnam Gangaraju, made movies like Akashavani, but nothing is working out. Many are wondering why Rajamouli will not focus on his assistants the way Sukumar does. Also, when Sukumar’s ADs are proving a lot, why Rajamouli’s ADs are failing a lot is the moot question.

Some say that Rajamouli is always busy with his own project, and has no time to focus on his Assistant Directors. However, it looks like Rajamouli also never involves his ADs in the scripting of a film, so they are not learning what to script and how. Meanwhile, Sukumar, involves most of his ADs in the writing work also, which is why they are learning a lot and carving blockbuster movies too. Anyway, it will be good if Rajamouli’s assistant directors also make it big in the Telugu film industry.
