SS Rajamouli, the genius behind Baahubali and RRR, doesn’t often praise other films as being a superstar director himself. So when he does, it catches attention, trending India-wide news. Recently, he shared some kind words for Ashish Chanchlani, the YouTuber-turned-actor who hosted the Varanasi title launch event in Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.
Rajamouli spoke about Ashish’s new series Ekaki, calling it “promising.” What grabbed his attention? The shift in genre, from horror to sci-fi. A twist that he found clever. On social media, he wrote, “Met Ashish during the Varanasi event and now I am happy to see him with his own fully written, produced, and self-made series. #Ekaki looks promising… Especially the genre shift from horror to sci-fi. A clever twist. All the best @ashchanchlani !!”
Ashish couldn’t hide his excitement. He showered the love back, calling Rajamouli’s words his “biggest achievement.” He said, “Rajamouli sir, thank you for your guidance and kind words. Honestly, hearing this from you is a dream come true. Your reaction? My biggest achievement. Love you sir.”
Making Ekaki wasn’t easy. Ashish wore many hats, writer, director, producer, actor, and it tested him. “This was nothing as I’ve done before. When we started, I had no idea what we were really getting into. It was a tough ride, seven months of pre-production, 80 days of shooting, seven more months of post-production,” he said.
He added, “But I loved every part. Maybe I won’t do it again, maybe I will. Who knows? But putting in all that effort and seeing it come alive, it feels worth it. I just hope people enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it.” The series follows a bunch of friends on a weekend trip to the mysterious Ekaki Villa. Fun turns spooky fast as weird, unexplainable things start happening. Horror meets sci-fi in ways you might not expect.
