Directors Renting Their Names For Quick Bucks

Once you are a popular director, your name carries a lot of ‘will ’, and that could be cashed in on. There is this senior director who keeps on churning out a lot of small-budget movies, but not all movies are actually written by him. If he likes the subject, he lends his name as a screenwriter and pockets certain goodwill amount. Now another director is also going the same route.

For an upcoming series that will be coming on Netflix, a young hero got teamed up with a successful director. Even for this one, this star director has nothing to do with the script, but it’s actually written and directed by a Tamil filmmaker. However, as the hero wants a big name to be attached, they have approached this star director, and the director lent his name. Reports are coming that he’s charging a ₹6.5 crores to do that.

Well, many other directors have also become producers these days, and there is always another co-producer attached to the project. Sources in the know revealed that the co-producers are actually the main investors of the movie, but these directors simply give their name for money. That’s a win-win because the project gets sold to OTT and gets a good theatrical release due to the presence of these star directors.
