Sunjay Kapur, ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away suddenly at the age of 53 after suffering a heart attack while playing polo in the UK. His death came as a shock to his friends, family, and well-wishers.
Sunjay was a well-known person in the business world. He was the son of Rani Kapur and the late Surinder Kapur, who started the Sona Group a leading manufacturer of automotive components. Later, Sunjay became chairman of Sona Comstar and successfully led its growth in both India and other countries.
Sources say Sunjay fell ill after a bee flew into his mouth while he was riding his horse during a polo match. This incident triggered a heart attack. Despite the team’s quick efforts to provide medical aid Sunjay could not be saved.
Late on Thursday night, Kareena Kapoor and her husband Saif Ali Khan were seen arriving at Karisma Kapoor’s Mumbai home to pay their condolences. Malaika Arora was also present alongside her sister Amrita Arora’s husband and son. The paparazzi captured Kareena and Malaika looking sad as they stayed quietly in their cars.
Just hours before his death, Sunjay had shared a heartfelt message on social media about the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. His last tweet said, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”
Sunjay’s marriage to Karisma Kapoor, which fell through in 2016, was often in the media spotlight. They have two children together a daughter, Samaira and a son Kiaan. Later, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev.
