Suriya Gifts Three Cars: Lesser or Smarter?

Suriya is winning hearts once again with his great movie. Fresh off the success of Karuppu, the star reportedly gifted brand-new cars to three key technicians of the film. Including music director Sai Abhyankar, the movie’s cinematographer and editor received the Mahindra BE6 as a token of appreciation for their contribution. While the gesture has generated widespread praise across Kollywood, there is some criticism.

At a time when many producers and stars are handing out things like costly, extravagant luxury SUVs, like how Megastar Chiranjeevi gifted a Land Rover to Anil Ravipudi, and Kamal Haasan gifted a Lexus ES 300h to Lokesh Kanagaraj, which cost more than ₹75 lakhs, many are wondering why Suriya gifted just a ₹25 lakh luxury vehicle to his technicians. Some say that Suriya could have gone for something bigger, considering Karuppu emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year.

Some, however, felt that, instead of spending the budget of one luxury vehicle on a single person, Suriya chose to reward three technicians. The combined value of the cars may be similar to what some stars spend on one premium luxury vehicle, but Suriya’s intent is great, as he honoured not just a director but the technicians as well.

More importantly, the message behind the gesture matters. Whether the gifts were luxury cars or not is secondary. The bigger takeaway is that Suriya remembered the technicians when the celebrations began. Karuppu aka Veerabhadrudu emerged as a ₹300 crores succes in Suriya’s career, a first one.
