The Telugu audience are very receptive of quality films and they have their own way of encouraging good films that come with the right content. But at the same time, great things are expected of top production houses that have the reputation of making quality films.

Producer Swapna Dutt expressed her candid opinions about the reception of the film Champion, stating that the movie faced unnecessary criticism.

According to her, if Champion had been made by someone else, it would not have attracted such intense critical reviews. She suggested that the film was judged more strictly because of the people associated with it, rather than on its true intent or content.

She also spoke about the current trend of making love stories in cinema, calling it an easy formula to follow. Swapna Dutt explained that a typical romantic film can be created by casting a sharp looking hero, a beautiful heroine, and adding five or six songs, making it appealing on the surface. However, she made it clear that her team had no interest in taking that predictable route.

Instead, she highlighted that Champion was made with a different vision and purpose. The film aimed to tell a meaningful story rather than rely on clichés and commercial elements. Swapna Dutt emphasized that cinema should evolve and take risks, even if it invites criticism.

She further added that today, Champion has played a crucial role in transforming Roshan into a star. Despite mixed reviews, the film helped establish his identity and opened new opportunities for him in the industry. For her, that achievement outweighs criticism, reaffirming her belief in making honest, unconventional cinema.
