Hyd Ticket Prices: Forget IMAX, Look At Single Screens

Already in the multiplexes, the normal ticket rate for all-day shows is being pegged at ₹295, and many thought that the Telangana Government might bring the price down like in Tamil Nadu and other states. People hoped that, at the very least, on single screens they would be able to watch movies for either ₹149 or ₹199. However, the Telangana govt has, the other day, given a shocker to the audience.

For theatres with special setups, the other day, the Telangana Govt approved officially through a GO that even in single screens the tickets could be priced at ₹295. While people are talking about how even a special IMAX theatre being built by Mahesh Babu and Asian Group should be charging only ₹295, the thing to be looked at is that now half the single-screen theatres in Hyderabad will charge ₹295 only. Because all these theatres are considered ‘special premium theatres’ as they meet the two specifications of having Dolby 7.1 Surround sound and a 2K projection system.

While some folks are worried about this pricing, some are already habituated to watching movies at the ₹295 price, and they might not feel any difference. However, when single screens are also priced at the level of multiplexes, most audiences prefer to go to multiplexes because they have ample parking, and people can do shopping and eat before the movie starts and after.
