Telugu cinema has been the powerhouse of Indian cinema for many years now, but things are not looking promising as the current box office trends are very weak and detrimental.

After a strong start to 2026 with successful Sankranthi releases, the Telugu film industry is again facing a difficult period at the box office. Films released in February and March have failed to draw audiences in theaters, with many titles falling short of even basic expectations.

Despite Sankranthi giving the industry a boost in January, no significant hit has emerged in the last two months. Big releases, including Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh, were poorly received by audiences, and many films could not generate satisfactory footfalls in theaters.

Exhibitors are struggling because theater attendance remains low and there has been no consistent success among new releases.

Even dubbed films have not provided the expected box office lift. One notable exception in March has been Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which has shown better performance in Telugu states, but this alone hasn’t turned around the overall slump.

With the recent run of flops and weak commercial performance across multiple films, the disastrous phase for Telugu cinema appears to be continuing.
