Earlier, if Telugu directors had to take up any VFX film, they had to wait for years to get the approvals. After watching the delays the films like Kodi Ramakrishna’s Anji and Rajamouli’s Baahubali have gone through, no one would dare to make a VFX film, forget about animation films. Now, Telugu directors are running after animation films, where newly created CG characters are the heroes, but not the real actors.
Already, director Chandu Mondeti is coming up with a full-scale animated film. Now we have director Anil Ravipudi joining this gang, if reports are to be believed, as he is getting ready to direct an animation film for KVN Productions, the makers of Yash’s Toxic. The film might take easily 3-4 hours to come out, even though the work has started now.
On the other hand, Even Rajamouli is backing the animated version of the Baahubali series, and the trailer has also come out. Many are wondering why Telugu directors are suddenly heading towards the animation side at the moment, while Bollywood saw success recently with Mahavatar Narasimha.
In Hollywood, animation films are mostly directed by people who are pioneers in animation, who have worked as ‘animation directors’ at reputed studios for years. However, in the South of India, currently, big directors are eyeing this slot and coming up with VFX-centred animation movies. We have to see how the results are going to be.
