When a women-centric film releases, people usually start wondering if it’ll actually work. Most hits these days lean heavily on the hero. But The Girlfriend, starring Rashmika Mandanna and directed by Rahul Ravindran, surprised everyone in a good way. The film has picked up strong word of mouth and is holding steady in theatres without slowing down much.
In India alone, the movie touched around ₹23 crore across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Overseas added another ₹7 crore, and worldwide it’s cruising near the ₹30 crore mark. Not bad for a film that doesn’t follow the usual formula. Audiences, especially women, connected with how the story handled female struggles without making it preachy.
Rashmika’s performance is being talked about a lot. Dheekshith Shetty also got a nice amount of appreciation for grounding the emotional parts. Many viewers said the film felt honest, almost like it was finally showing the kind of problems women keep brushing aside in real life. That sincerity seems to be one of the reasons it clicked.
On the work front, Rashmika has already moved on to her next project. She’s shooting Cocktail 2, where she stars alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. Another busy phase for her, but looking at how things are going, she seems pretty unstoppable right now.
