With the Telangana High Court expressing its dissent over the way the Government of Telangana is issuing special memos to hike the ticket prices of Sankranthi films like Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu, it looks like Tollywood’s big plans for Summer 2026 are in doldrums. As the Court clarified that Section 7A of the Cinemas Regulation Act mandates hikes to be given only 90 days prior, it looks like there is a catch now.

Tollywood is hoping that biggies like Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh, Ram Charan’s Peddi, Naga Chaitanya’s Vrushakarma, and other movies will likely benefit from the price hike that will be given to these big-budget movies. Though the likes of Nani’s Paradise and Nikhil’s Swayambhu have postponed their release, even these movies will be affected if they come on time.

With the Court expressing concern over ticket hikes, even the Government might not go against it, they say. Going by these proceedings, very soon, maybe some human rights and civil rights advocates might knock on the doors of the Andhra Pradesh High Court too, asking the Government of AP to stop giving ticket hikes. Usually, ticket hike GOs are granted more easily in AP than in Telangana.

On the other hand, the audience is asking why they should pay more to fill producers' coffers faster, while this could be dealt with by lowering the remuneration of heroes who are charging pretty high remuneration. We have to see where this debate and the legal issue end.
