Senior hero Nandamuri Balakrishna has recently surprised everyone by sending feelers that he’s teaming up with younger directors like Vivek Athreya and Vijay Kanakamedala. However, right now, its coming out that Balakrishna is teaming up with Koratala Siva, as he wants to play a safe game with a structured, mass-friendly move. Well, is it the right thing to do at this stage of the career?

Message-driven narratives, elevated hero moments, and mass stories are not working these days anymore. We’ve already seen this version of Balakrishna in many movies, but even Akhanda 2 was pushed more into this, adding the Hindutva vibe. However, that failed. A film with Vivek Athreya would have been a different zone. More contemporary and more character-driven, with fewer predictable elements and not following the usual mass template. And more importantly, it could have changed perception.

Because right now, Balakrishna doesn’t need validation from his mass fans. That base is locked. At this stage of his career, he should either consolidate or explore newer trends. Koratala helps consolidate. But Vivek could have helped to explore uncharted territories. However, it looks like Balakrishna has chosen Koratala’s film becuase it will give safety, predictable returns, and usual thrill to fans. On the other hand, Athreya’s film might also take off after some time.
