For this producer, ₹100 crore budgets are nothing new. He entered Tollywood like a wave, backed multiple films one after the other, and never really hesitated when it came to spending big. Even for films that didn’t require a ₹10 crore budget, he invested more, and that resulted in him getting fewer hits and more flops. But that didn’t slow him down. However, something has changed, in a very big way, now.

Recently, a director approached this producer with a pan-India subject. The narration reportedly impressed him. Everything was going well until the budget came up, which is a bit near ₹100 crores. And the answer was an immediate no from the producer. Not because he can’t afford it. But because of what he just went through. His last big-ticket film with a star hero ended up as a massive disaster, and that gave him a huge financial blow. But what seems to have hurt him more is the internal damage that happened to his organisation.

Reports are coming that alleged mismanagement of funds by insiders and trust issues between the producer and some of his strong lieutenants during the production phase have disturbed the producer big time. So when another ₹100 crore proposal came in, the instinct was to step back. Interestingly, people close to him say the story doesn’t even demand that kind of budget. There’s a feeling that the director might have over-quoted, either to scale it up or to play safe.

Anyway, times are changing in Tollywood big time now.
