The first sparks of a new superhero universe in Indian cinema are already flying, and fans cannot stop talking. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, which was released on August 28, 2025, has set the stage for something bigger. While the story followed a mysterious goth woman named Chandra, all eyes turned when a certain cameo dropped, Tovino Thomas appearing as Chathan, a mischievous but powerful goblin from Kerala folklore. That brief screen time was enough to set the rumour wheel spinning: will he headline Lokah 2?
The film’s post-credit scene only added more fire. A monk returns alone from a vanished expedition, questioned directly by Chathan, who hints at the existence of hundreds of his siblings. The tease felt deliberate, almost a promise that the next chapter might dive into Chathan’s dark and fantastical world. Tovino already carries superhero credibility after Minnal Murali, and the idea of him stepping into another myth-inspired role is giving fans goosebumps.
What makes this universe exciting is the blending of modern storytelling with old regional myths. Chathan, pulled from Malabar folklore, and Charlie, Dulquer Salmaan’s shape-shifting ninja inspired by Odiyan legends, show how Kerala’s mystical tales can fuel a franchise. It is not just about capes and costumes but about bringing rooted cultural stories into a new-age canvas. The seeds are clearly planted for an interconnected saga, much like a global superhero series, but with a desi spine.
For now, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is still holding strong in theatres with Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, and a vibrant cast carrying the first leg. Yet, it is the cameos, hints, and cliffhangers that have people talking louder than the main story. If Lokah 2 really centers on Tovino Thomas as Chathan, South Indian cinema may have just found its most unconventional hero yet.
