Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Officially Postponed In India

The much-awaited Tamil film Jana Nayagan starring Vijay has been officially postponed in India. The movie was earlier planned for a grand theatrical release on January 9, 2026. However, just two days before release, the makers announced that the film will not arrive in theatres as scheduled.
The announcement was made by the production house KVN Productions through a social media post. In their statement, the team said the decision was taken due to unavoidable reasons beyond their control. They also mentioned that the choice to postpone the release was not easy, as the film carried huge expectations from fans and the industry. The makers assured audiences that a new release date will be shared soon and requested patience and continued support.
One of the main reasons behind the delay is the film’s pending censor clearance. Jana Nayagan has not yet received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), even though it was submitted more than a month ago. Reports say the board had suggested certain cuts and muted dialogues in December, but the final certificate is still awaited.
Due to this issue, the producers approached the Madras High Court, seeking clarity on the film’s release. The court has now asked the CBFC to form a fresh committee to review the movie and has reserved its order on the matter. Until the certification is cleared, the India release remains on hold.
The postponement has also affected overseas markets. Distributors in the UK, the US, Canada, and Malaysia have confirmed that the film will not release there either. Since the Tamil version must be certified first, dubbed versions in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada are also delayed.
Following the announcement, several theatres cancelled January 9 shows. A cinema in Karnataka confirmed that all tickets booked for that day will be refunded both online and at counters.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain in key roles. The film is also being promoted as Vijay’s final movie before entering full-time politics, making the delay even more emotional for fans.
