"They Said I Was Finished!" Vijay Sethupathi Hits Back!

Vijay Sethupathi, the 47-year-old versatile actor, faced a rough phase in his career with back-to-back flops like Viduthalai, Merry Christmas, and Mumbaikar. However, he made a grand comeback with his 50th film, Maharaja, which turned into a massive blockbuster, collecting ₹180 crores across India and China.

Reflecting on his journey, Vijay Sethupathi opened up about the struggles he faced before Maharaja’s success.

“I have seen many ups and downs in my career. At one point, people said my career was over. But Maharaja changed everything for me. This film will always have a special place in my heart. The fact that people now say, ‘Vijay Sethupathi acted in Maharaja’ makes me emotional. For nearly three years, my films didn’t work, and many doubted my future. But this movie gave me the chance to prove myself again. I never imagined a film would connect with the world like this,” he said.

Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, Maharaja, released in June last year, was an action thriller with a unique concept. The film also featured Anurag Kashyap in a key role.

On the work front, Vijay Sethupathi is currently shooting for three exciting projects—Ace, Train, and an untitled film directed by Pandiraj. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what’s next in store for the ‘Makkal Selvan’!
