Already, Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi’s direct Telugu film “Slumdog: 33 Temple Road”, which is directed and produced by Puri Jagannadh, is not even getting attention in the Telugu circuits. While the film’s release hasn’t been locked, though the movie was ready almost 6 months ago, the situation of the hero’s latest movie shows how much his market has been affected.

There are films like Maharaja that worked for Vijay Sethupathi and brought him back into the action, but the other films from the star haven’t really worked out. For example, to cash in on the Gandhi Jayanthi long weekend, he came up with the movie “Baththa”, which hit cinemas on October 1st, with previews a day earlier. Though critics praised it, social media hailed it, and Vijay Sethupathi nailed it, the film hasn’t collected more than ₹24+ crores net from the Indian box office till today. That’s what everyone wondered.

Apparently, the film was released only in Tamil, and in Telugu states, this original version with subtitles stands no chance. Now that Sethupathi’s market has collapsed badly due to some of the films he brought in recent times, it looks like his penetration power into the masses has declined. Otherwise, collecting just ₹25 crores in 12 days is not a great performance. Probably the talented actors next film choices should be impressive; otherwise he will lose command over the market.
