Where Does Akshay Kumar Go From Here?
His comedy films have a separate fanbase and his action films are a treat to watch.
Hailed as Khiladi of Bollywood Akshay Kumar has been one of the top stars in Hindi cinema for the past 3 decades. His comedy films have a separate fanbase and his action films are a treat to watch. He always managed to strike a balance between both of them. Prior to the lockdown, he enjoyed a golden period with his message-oriented films and movie with patriotic touch which include 'Airlift', 'Padman', 'Gold', 'Kesari', 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha' and more.
But everything changed since lockdown. His 'Suryavanshi' became a huge success and many thought that the lockdown had no effect on him. Akshay is always known for finishing films quickly and delivering 3-4 projects per year. But the saturation of work turned against him after covid as he is now unable to score a hit and his market declined rapidly.
All his movies like 'Bell Bottom', 'Bachchan Pandey', 'Samrat Prithviraj', 'Raksha Bandhan', 'Cutputli', 'Ram Sethu', 'Selfie', 'Mission Raniganj' and 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' failed badly at the box office. His latest outing 'Sarfira' collected a mere 4 crore on the opening day which is very less. Akshay used to deliver 100 crore collecting films with ease at one point in time. But his numbers reflect how poor his films are performing at the box office.
The opening day collections of 'Mission Raniganj' were 3.8 crores while 'Selfie' got 4.2 crores. 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' got 31 crores but it was a multistarrer with Tiger Shroff as one of the leads. All of them were commercial failures. With 'Sarfira' also tanking, it will be interesting to see where Akshay Kumar goes from here. He is not out of projects and is still busy. But something needs to change and everyone are wondering what it is.
