According to the latest report, 823 million people consume the internet in India and 86% of them view the content on online streaming platforms.
Post 2020, people who watch OTT content in India has increased massively. With Corona shutting down all the theatres at that period, people turned towards OTT platforms for entertainment. A survey reported that the viewership of content in OTT platforms has increased by 250% in the last five years.
According to the latest report, 823 million people consume the internet in India and 86% of them view the content on online streaming platforms. The survey suggests that they watch at least 5-10 hours of OTT content every month. Interestingly, people from rural areas use more internet compared to urban public.
While 442 million people which counts 53% belong to rural areas, the ratio of women to men is 46:54 according to the said survey. Among the OTT viewers, 57% of people watch OTT content in local languages. Mainly, South Indian people watch OTT in local languages like Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages according to the survey.
Experts suggest that the consumption of OTT content will increase three to four times in the next five years. This suggests that giving content in the local languages will surely attract a lot of audience to the streaming platforms.
