Will There Be A Shankar Cinematic Universe In The Future?
He is the pioneer of such subjects and many directors like Murugadoss, Atlee and others followed him.
Legendary filmmaker Shankar is one of the few directors who mastered the art of making commercial cinema on a strong social subject. He came up with the idea of a hero fighting against evil in the society during early 90s itself. He is the pioneer of such subjects and many directors like Murugadoss, Atlee and others followed him.
He was the biggest director in South cinema before Rajamouli arrived with magnum opus films. Shankar gave us some iconic films like 'Gentleman', 'Premikudu', 'Jeans', 'Bharateeyudu', 'Oke Okkadu', 'Boys', 'Aparichitudu', Shivaji' and 'Robo'. His hero characters are etched into the minds of people forever whether it is Senapthi or Shivaji or 1-day Chief Minister from 'Oke Okkadu'. Since most of his films have heroes fighting against the corrupt system, Shankar reportedly had the idea of creating his own cinematic universe.
It is not something that popped into his mind after watching young directors like Lokesh or others. Apparently, he had this idea back in 2008 but the people around him were not ready for it. During a recent interview, he said, “During 2008, I had thought of Making the lead characters of INDIAN (Bharateeyudu), MUDHALVAN (Oke Okkadu) & SHIVAJI together in a single film, creating (SHANKAR CINEMATIC UNIVERSE). I didn't get a response when I told this idea to my assistants, and hence I dropped it.”
'Indian 2' is getting released on 12th July and the first film arrived 28 years ago. There are high expectations on 'Indian 2' as Kamal is back doing his famous Senapathi role. Siddharth is playing a very important role while Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, SJ Suriya and others are a part of this film as well. After this film, Shankar is going to arrive with 'Game Changer' later this year. Ram Charan is the lead in this pan-Indian film.
