Is Toxic Scared of OTT?

Yash’s Toxic is now facing a different kind of attention. The film had a big release in theatres with huge expectations. However, it received mixed to negative reactions from several viewers and did not perform at the box office as expected.

There is no official statement from the makers or ZEE5 saying that the OTT release has been delayed because of negative reviews. So, it would be too early to say that the film is actually “scared” of the OTT audience.

According to reports, Toxic was expected to arrive on OTT around the end of September. September 25 was earlier mentioned as a possible streaming date. However, the film did not appear on the platform.

The latest ZEE5 October OTT release list also reportedly does not include Toxic. This has created more confusion among fans who have been waiting for the digital premiere.

Usually, audiences expect films to arrive on OTT a few weeks after their theatrical run. Toxic has already completed its theatrical journey, making the delay more noticeable.

The film has a huge star cast. Yash plays the lead role, while Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria are part of the movie. Geetu Mohandas directed the film, while Ravi Basrur composed the music.

The OTT release could now bring a much wider audience to Toxic. People who did not buy a theatre ticket can watch the film from their homes. This could also lead to fresh discussions about the movie on social media.

At the same time, OTT audiences can be very different from theatrical audiences. Some films that receive poor theatrical responses find a second audience on streaming platforms. Others face even more criticism once they become easily available online.
