Can Alia Bhatt Reverse The Fortune Of YRF?
Currently, Alia Bhatt is enjoying her stardom with films like Gangubhai Kathiwadi proving her acting mettle, and other movies like Raki Rani Ki Prem Kahani doing well commercially at the box office.
Once upon a time, there was a belief that was proved multiple times: if Yash Raj Films takes you up as an actor, then your career is set. Bagging the YRF projects and appearing in YRF-backed movies gave a lot of spotlight to actors and actresses. Many young heroes and heroines, especially those coming from a film background, used to run after YRF big time. But now, trends have changed. YRF is not that kingmaker in Bollywood, with most of their movies failing.
YRF is coming up with these spyverse films, with none other than Aditya Chopra writing most of those movies. However, some movies have clicked, but some films like War 2 and others failed massively. That too due to some casting choices they got criticised for. After the whole Bollywood kept silent on Dhurandhar's success, folks started blasting YRF’s spyverse, asking how they can show love stories between Indian and Pak spies when Pak people are brutally killing Indians. At this juncture, they are coming up with the spyverse film “Alpha” that has Alia Bhatt in the lead.
Currently, Alia Bhatt is enjoying her stardom with films like Gangubhai Kathiwadi proving her acting mettle, and other movies like Raki Rani Ki Prem Kahani doing well commercially at the box office. Now, despite the criticism YRF’s story and the copied scenes in the Alpha teaser are getting, the movie should get good openings due to Alia, and also run well. If that happens, surely the actress who has become a mom recently would reverse the fortunes of the production house that is struggling to get things right.
Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail, who is popular for The Railway Men web series, is hitting cinemas on July 10th, 2026.
