10 States in India account for a lion share of Covid-19 cases, casualties!

The second wave of the ongoing Coronavirus started in April this year in India. Since its inception, India has been breaking the previous records and setting new records in single-day infections and casualties.

After recording more than two lakh new Coronavirus cases for nearly ten days, India is now witnessing more than three lakh cases. For the seventh consecutive day, India reported more than three lakh cases on April 28.

As per the data of the Union Health Ministry's dashboard, India saw record single-day infections and casualties with over 3.6 lakh cases and 3,293 casualties in the past 24 hours respectively.

The data shared by the Union Health Ministry says, out of the new fatalities reported in India in the past 24 hours, 10 states like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh account for  78.53 percent of new deaths.

Looking at the new cases, states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Rajasthan account for 73. 59 percent of total cases reported today.

Maharashtra, the severely-hit state, reported the highest number of cases in the past 24 hours with as many as 66,358 new infections, followed by Uttar Pradesh(32,921) and Kerala(32,819).

The same states also account for 71.91 percent of the total active cases in the country. India now has a total of  29,78,709 active cases of the novel Coronavirus. Maharashtra has the highest number of active cases.
