Thanks to the delaying tactics adopted by the state election commission, over 100 candidates, who have either been elected unanimously or were in the fray for the ZPTC and MPTC elections, have died in Andhra Pradesh. These deaths have occurred during the last one year during the Corona lockdown.

This shocking fact came to light when the panchayat raj and the state election commission began a survey to conduct the elections for the ZPTC and MPTC seats. As many as 87 MPTC candidates, who have either been declared elected unopposed or were locked in the contest, were dead. Sources say that eight MPTC members, who have died, were elected unopposed.. As many as 13 such ZPTC candidates too have died. The elections were postponed on March 15, 2020.Among the dead MPTCs, 39 were from the YSRCP, 28 from the TDP, 4 BJP, CPM 2, Jana Sena 1, Congress 2, BSP 1 and independents 1.

The election commission is now planning to allow re-filing of nominations wherever necessary. The arrangement was in place in the past, say sources.
