A shocking information was revealed by National Aids Control Organization. As per the report nearly 2334 people across india affected with HIV virus in due to transfusion of blood over the past 17 months. The details were revealed by NACO to an RTI query filed by an activist named Chetan Kothari.
Among the cases Uttar Pradesh topped the list with more victims. 361 people from UP was reportedly affected with HIV due to unsafe blood transfusion. Gujarat follows UP with number of 292 cases, Maharashtra with 276 and Delhi with 264 cases.
The activist says no action taken against hospitals or blood banks and demands govt to address the issues. Last week a three year old boy from Assam who admitted in hospital due to burns is reported to have contracted HIV due to transfusion of contaminated blood.
