Fire broke out in the parking lot near Gate Number 5 of Yelahanka Air Force Station where the Aero India 2019 event is being hosted. Around 300 cars in the parking area have been gutted in the fire at around 12.15 pm on Saturday when the Air Show was under progress.
Fire Safety Personnel had controlled the fire by maintaining a big gap between adjacent cars in the parking lot. No casualties have been reported until now.
Lit Cigarette which was thrown on the dry grass in the premises caught up with fire and it spread quickly due to strong winds. This incident happened minutes after Badminton Champ PV Sindhu turned co-pilot to fly in the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas trainer variant.
Aero India Show was halted abruptly due to the fire mishap. None of the planes flew in the air after PV Sindhu took the skies. The 5-day Air Show will come to an end on February 24th.
