5 Vacancies... 30 Aspirants.... Who Will Get These 'Jobs?'

Update: 2022-10-23 03:48 GMT
Vacancies are just five… but the claimants are around 30. No…. this is not a job announcement for which the unemployed in Telangana have been eagerly waiting for years. These are politicians galore who are using every lever of power and key of opportunity to become an MLC in Telangana. The rush for claiming these posts has already begun in the ruling TRS even though the vacancies will appear in March next year.

The term of five MLCS – Krishna Reddy, Gangadhar Goud, Naveen Kumar, Rajeshwara Rao and Farooq Hussain – will end in March 2023. The last two MLCs are appointed through Governor's quota. Intense lobbying has begun for these five posts in the ruling TRS. Several leaders are now trying for the MLC seat. The aspirants are already doing rounds of the Pragathi Bhavan.

Former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and former MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Rao, both from Khammam, badly want the MLC position because they have been in political wilderness for far too long.  Former MLAs Payam Venkateswarlu and Thati Venkateswarlu too are trying hard to get the MLC posts. All these leaders are from Khammam district, where the TRS is quite weak.

Former ministers Motkupalli Narsimhulu and Inugala Peddireddy, who left the BJP ahead  of the Huzurabad elections to join the TRS, were promised the MLC post. But, will they get the MLC post this time? KCR has now promised MLC tickets to former MLA Budida Bikshamaiah Goud, Dasoju Sravan and former chairperson of the legislative council Swami Goud. If these leaders get the MLC seats, it is likely that the seniors may have to wait for some more time.

Several leaders like Taduri Srinivas, former Hyderabad mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy, former mayor Bonthu Rammohan, former minister Mandava Venkateswara Rao and several others too are aspiring for the MLC post. It remains to be seen who will make it to the final list in March 2023.
