At least seven persons died and 15 people are in a critical condition after drinking 'spurious liquor' at Swarna Bar in Krishna Lanka area in Vijayawada on Monday morning. The incident occurred at the Krishnalanka area of Vijaywada, where the victims fell unconscious after drinking illicit liquor at a local bar.
All the victims are reported to be daily wage workers who consumed liquor before going for work in the morning. While six of them died soon after, ten people are undergoing treatment at a hospital. The bar is located close to the chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's camp office in the city.
The excise police and local police have launched an investigation into the case and they seized the bar immediately. Police suspected that the bar sold spurious liquor labelled with legitimate brands. Excise minister Kollu Ravindra responded on the matter and said action will be taken against the culprits whoever is behind the incident.
