Polling Day: Record Turnout in Goa, 70% in Punjab!

A record voter turnout of 83% (11.10 lakh voters) was witnessed on the polling day of Goa Assembly Polls. The major battle is between ruling BJP and Congress in this 40-member Assembly. BJP contested 2012 Polls with its alliance partner MGP. This time, It's contesting the election alone. Whereas, AAP, MGP, Shiv Sena and GSM are trying to make their presence felt. 

As many as 250 candidates are in race for Goa Assembly. While BJP fielded 36 candidates, Congress and AAP backed 37 and 39 contestants respectively. All of them have supported Independents in few constituencies.

In Punjab, 70% turnout has been recorded. A multi-cornered contest is expected between ruling Akali Dal-BJP, Congress and AAP. The polling percentage got affected by technical glitches in few places. Exit Polls predicted Congress to have an upper hand this time.
