Tikiri, the 70-Year-Old Elephant which looked frail, sparked an uproar all over the World after it was forced to march at the Perahera Festival in Kandy, Sri Lanka in August this year. This giant creature has passed away in this week as per an Animal Rights Charity.

Save Elephant Foundation (SEF) founder Lek Chailert declared that suffering of Tikiri has finally ended and her soul is now free. He added, 'Nobody could harm her from now onwards. RIP dear Tikiri. Never come back to this World which is so cruel'.

It was the Save Elephant Foundation which brought the suffering of Tikiri to the notice of Animal lovers across the World by sharing photos of the tusker performing at the Perahera Festival. People who weren't used to seeing an elephant skeleton were shell shocked with the harsh manner in which it was treated in the name of customs. The Temple Management defended itself saying Tikiri looked so weak because of digestive ailment. Then, Why did it force such an old elephant who isn't in good health to wear heavy costumes and take part in the festival?
