9 kg Gold caught at Shamshabad Airport

Gold smuggling has been ramphant in Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad. Inspite of frequent arrests by the Customs and Central Excise department Officials, Passengers continue to invite trouble by indulging in gold smuggling.

The DRI officials on Wednesday seized 9 kilograms of gold from one of the seats in Spice Jet airways flight. Enquiry is under progress to nab the culprit who left the gold biscuits in the plane out of fear.

Customs officials say, Spice Jet plane arrived from Dubai and the passenger who bought the gold biscuits might have feared that he would be arrested if get caught during the checking. The gold biscuits weighing 9 kg were worth Rs 3 crore.
