With the date for filing nominations expiring, as many as 61 candidates have filed the nominations for the Huzurabad bypolls. Except BJP nominees Eatala Rajender, his wife Eatala Jamuna, TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav and Congress candidate Balmuri Venkat, all other candidates are independents. A total of 92 nominations were filed by 61 candidates. The scrutiny of these nominations would take place and the final list of the candidates would be announced after the expiry of the date of withdrawal of nominations.
An interesting feature of the bypoll contest is that at least 12 field assistants of the employment guarantee scheme are in the fray. They have filed their nominations in protest against their retrenchment by the Telangana government. A large number of field assistants staged a protest from 10 am on Friday against the TRS. They raised slogans as TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas came to file his nomination. Minister Harish Rao too was present on the occasion.
Field Assistants' Association leader Syamalaiah is also in the fray. He said there was no question of dropping out of the fray. He said the TRS government has put their livelihoods in jeopardy by removing them suddenly. They said they would teach a lesson to the TRS government.
Meanwhile, Eatala's wife Jamuna Reddy filed her papers as a dummy candidate. Since his first elections, Jamuna Reddy has been filing nominations as a dummy candidate. Speaking on the occasion, she exuded confidence that Eatala would be returned with a handsome majority to the assembly again. She said the people of Huzurabad know Eatala's contribution to the development of the constituency and hoped that the he will win with a good majority.
