A rare honour to Malala!

Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner & Girl's Education Campaigner, now has an asteroid named after her.

Amy Mainzer, an American astronomer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, named Asteroid 316201 after Malala. She himself has  discovered the asteroid in the Main Belt between Mars and Jupiter so that he has got every right to give a name to it. This particular Asteroid orbits the Sun every 5.5 Years.

When quizzed the reason behind her decision, Amy Mainzer claims its a great honour to name an asteroid after an Inspiring Personality like Malala as very few have been named to honor the contributions of women.
