Young all-rounder Rashid Khan of the Afghanistan National Cricket team was elated as the skipper of the team. He was named as the captain for the shortest format of the game as a preparation for the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

While Rashid Khan was appointed the skipper, Najibullah Zadran was named as his deputy. The Afghanistan Cricket Board took to Twitter to announce the same and said, the decision was taken by the ACB leadership.

"All-rounder @rashidkhan_19 has been appointed the T20I captain & @iamnajibzadran as V-captain. Rashid, one of the well-known global faces of the game, was selected by senior ACB leadership led by ACB Chairman @Farhan_YusEfzai," the ACB tweeted.

Rashid Khan, who earlier told the board that holding the skipper position would impact his performance as the player and refused to take up the captaincy has changed his mind and finally accepted the ACB's proposal.

In the forthcoming T20 World Cup, the Afghanistan team led by young Rashid Khan will play in Group B. England, India and South Africa will also be placed in Group B of the teams. This will be a huge responsibility on the young player.

The ACB which is focusing on transforming the team into a leading team is trying the split captaincy module so that the captain will not face any mental burden. As part of this, Rashid Khan was announced T20 captain, while Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the team in the 50-over format and the longest format of the game.

Rashid Khan, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League(IPL) tournament currently holds the second position in the ICC T20I Rankings, while South Africa's Tabraiz Shamsi is at the first position.

After the news broke out, social media is showering congratulatory messages on Rashid Khan. Joining the fans, the SRH team had also wished the player on his elation.

Rashid Khan thanked the ACB officials for trusting him and believing him. The all-rounder said, serving the country and the team is his duty and held the support of his fans as a key in his journey so far.

"I'm a great believer that a captain is as good as his team. It is Afghanistan that gave me the name RASHID KHAN & it is my duty now to serve my country & my team. Thank you @ACBofficials for the trust & believing in me. It is a dream journey & my fans support will be the key," Rashid Khan tweeted.
