The XE subvariant of the novel Coronavirus which is ringing danger bells in the United Kingdom and driving the virus spread has brought a worrying situation in India as the new variant had forayed into the nation. Earlier this week, the first infection of the XE variant was detected in Maharashtra by the officials.
Now the XE variant infections in the country went up to two as another state Gujarat saw the fresh variant. As per the information, the new infection was detected in a 67-year-old man who has a travel history of visiting Gujarat from Maharashtra. Last month he came to Vadodara from Mumbai.
It is said that a state health department official spoke to the media on this and confirmed that Gujarat reported the first infection of the XE variant and he has been kept under isolation as a precautionary measure.
After the old man developed Covid symptoms, the health department collected his samples and sent them to the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre for further testing. The researchers at the center had reportedly confirmed the new infection of the new sub-variant.
The infected person hails from Maharashtra and he visited Vadodara in Gujarat along with his family. He checked into a hotel for his stay. As part of the protocols, he underwent the Covid detection tests and the results came back positive. His samples were sent to the centre and his infection was confirmed as an XE variant.
After finishing his work here he went back to Maharashtra. It is believed that he did not interact with anyone and after reaching his home, he has been following the Covid protocols and observing the quarantine period. Following the procedure, the health department officials have sent the hotel staff and other helpers for the Covid tests. Thankfully no one developed any symptoms.
Reacting to the situation, the health departments in various states and union territories have started focusing on the new variant and the concerned officials were given strict orders to keep an eye on the new infections and send the samples to the special labs to know the virus variant
