Update: 2021-03-21 07:32 GMT
The Coronavirus pandemic has started to spread its deadly wings in India, which in turn resulted in fresh infections going up rapidly. India, which added over 20,000 cases for seven days is now witnessing over 40,000 cases.

The active caseload surpassed the 3 lakh mark with 3,09,087 cases after India registered not less than 43,846 in the past 24 hours. After four months, India reported the highest spike in a single day.

The new casualties have also increased in the country. With 197 patients losing their lives to the pandemic in 24 hours, the total casualties related to the respiratory disease have zoomed to 1.59 lakh.

After Maharashtra imposed a lockdown in a few regions in the state given the spike in Covid-19 infections, the Madhya Pradesh government also took a call to impose a lockdown.

To curb the infections, the Madhya Pradesh government imposed a one-day lockdown on Sunday in Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur. The educational institutions will also be shut till the 31st of this month.

The experts are worried about the possible second wave in the country. If the fresh Covid-19 cases maintain a steady rise in the country, the lockdown might spread to other states as well and eventually lead to nationwide lockdown.
