The arrangements for the commencement of the Local Body polls in Andhra Pradesh are going on in full swing. The polls will be held in four phases, on February 9, 13, 17, and 21.
As per the notification for conduct of elections issued by the State Election Commission (SEC), the last date to file the nominations for the elections will end in a couple of days.When the election date for the first phase of the Panchayat elections is fast approaching, media reports are abuzz that SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar is working on other elections.
According to these media reports, after the last phase of the Local Body elections, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar is likely to release election notification for the Municipal elections.It has been widely reported that the election notification for the Municipal elections will be issued on the 22nd of February, a day after the fourth phase of the comes to an end.
It is also said that the Municipal elections will also be held in a phased manner. The elections are expected to be held in three phases.The Municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled to be commenced in 2020 only. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and a series of lockdowns, the elections went on getting delayed.
There are 16 Corporations, 77 Municipalities, and 31 City Panchayats in Andhra Pradesh. Along with these, the SEC is said to have been working to hold the polls for other divisions and wards in the state too.Coming to the Corporation elections, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar will take a call on whether the polls should be conducted along with the Municipal polls or they will be held separately.
However, there is no official information or confirmation on the elections from the State Election Commission or the SEC. We will get more clarity after the official announcement is made.
