AICC calls Nallari to Delhi: Will he be made AP Congress chief

Update: 2022-05-17 06:02 GMT
In an interesting development, former Chief Minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy suddenly left for Delhi and is expected to meet Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday. Sources said that Nallari got a call from the AICC in Delhi requesting him to come to Delhi for a meeting with Sonia Gandhi. He is also likely to meet Congress party incharge for AP Oomen Chandy.

Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy, in all probability, could take over reins of the Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh. The party, which ruled the state for decades, is in doldrums in AP. It did not win even a single MLA seat since 2014 and lost security deposits in all seats in 2019 and all but one seat in 2014.

Raghuveera Reddy, who led the party till 2019, has retired from active politics, while his successor Shailaja Nath is completely inactive. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi want to breathe life into the AP unit and felt that only Kiran Kumar Reddy could do justice to the party and build it from the grassroots level.

Interestingly, Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy was offered the PCC chief post earlier too. But he has turned it down saying that he was not interested in leading the party in AP. The big question mark is whether he would accept the request this time.  The party leadership is likely to seek his suggestions on how to strengthen the party in AP.

Kiran Kumar Reddy remained inactive politically ever since the state was bifurcated in 2014. He was the last CM of the undivided AP and staunchly opposed the division. Protesting against the bifurcation, he launched the Jai Samaikyandhra party in 2014 and the party lost badly. Later, the party was disbanded and Kiran Kumar Reddy rejoined the Congress. But, even after joining the party, he continued to remain inactive in politics.

It remains to be seen if he would accept the party leadership's offer and lead the party in AP? Let's wait and watch as things unfold in AP.
