Over weight is a common problem encountered by half of the population in India. Everybody knows this.. but.. can it affect our job? It may not affect your job or my job..but it can affect the job of a cabin crew in a Airline company..air hostesses in particular. In a recent development,  Air India has taken off 57 cabin crew members from flying and put them on ground duty.

It is a regular practice as per the DGCA rules, that they evaluate the fitness of the cabin crew  Majority of them being Air hostesses). They declare them 'fit', 'temporary unfit', 'permanent unfit' based on the evaluation done by designated doctors. They will be given a six month time frame to get back into 'fit' shape as per them.

The staff who were grounded, will lose allowances ranging from 35,000 to 50,000. If they continue to be overweight for more than a period of 19 months they will be permanently unfit to work as cabin crew.
