BCCI's Disciplinary Committee on Monday pronounced the verdict in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013 spot-fixing case. Haryana off-spinner Ajit Chandila was slapped with a life ban for his involvement and Mumbai batsman Hiken Shah was handed a five-year suspension for making a corrupt approach to a fellow player.
The Disciplinary Committee of the BCCI announced the decision after a meeting at headquarters in Mumbai. However, the committee showed mercy on Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf till February 12 and gave him a final deadline of February 9 to file his reply.
The 32-year-old Chandila, an off-spinner was found guilty of spot-fixing during his stint with Rajasthan Royals. On 16 May 2013, Chandila was arrested on charges of Spot-fixing during IPL 6 by the Delhi police along with Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan, who play alongside him for Rajasthan Royals.
Chandila had allegedly received 4.9 million (US$72,000) from bookies in the 2013 IPL season, of which 1.5 million (US$22,000) was paid to him to spot-fix in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 17 May 2013 before which he was arrested.
