Union Minister of Women and Child Development (WCD) Maneka Gandhi passed a rule that NRIs who get married in India should register it within 48 hours. She warned passport and visas willn't be issued if the marriages weren't registered within the deadline. An order has been passed to the registrars to provide details of NRI Marriages so that a central database can be maintained.
Until now, No Time Frame was set to register marriages of NRIs in India. This is gonna change now with the decision taken by the Centre.

Lookout circulars have been issued in six cases for keeping a watch on arrival and departure of NRI Husbands so as to prevent them from leaving India. In five cases, External Affairs Ministry has revoked passports.
