When the term Love Jihad is making headlines in the court, Allahabad Court gave a crucial verdict on the case filed on a Muslim Man by his wife's parents.
The High Court, which heard the petition canceled a First Information Report (FIR) filed against a Muslim man filed by his wife's parents. After marrying the man, the girl had converted to Islam.
The two-judge bench, which heard the petition said that they cannot interfere in this issue as interfering in a personal relationship would harm the right to freedom of choice.
The bench further said they are not seeing Priyanka Kahrwar and Salamat Ansari as Hindu and Muslim. We are seeing them as grown-up individuals. They are living together for more than a year.
Looking at the case, Salamat Ansari, who belongs to Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar got married to Priyanka Kharwar back in August 2019. The duo married against the girl's parent's wish.
Before tying the knot, Priyanka Kharwar had converted to Islam. She changed her name to Alia from Priyanka Kharwar.
The girl's parents lodged an FIR against the Muslim Man and accused him of crimes of abduction to compel a marriage. The parents said the girl was minor when she got married.
Earlier, this month, the Allahabad Court said, religious conversion solely for the purpose of marriage was prohibited.
