Allies Shiv Sena and Congress at loggerheads over old demand to rename city!

Update: 2021-01-03 17:43 GMT
The three-decades-old demand to rename the Aurangabad city to Sambhajinagar surfaced recently after the Shiv Sena supported the proposal ahead of the Aurangabad polls.

The campaign allegedly created a sir in the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance as the Shiv Sena is in favour of the demand while the Congress party is in no mood to change the city name.

Looking at the significance of the campaign. Shiv Sena, which leads the MVA alliance follows the ideology of the Maratha iconic leader Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and it is in favour of the idea.

The proposed name Sambhajinagar is pitched after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son Sambhaji Bhosale. He was killed by Mughal leader Aurangzeb by reportedly torturing him.

Shiv Sena is ok to rename Aurangabad which was named after the same Mughal leader Aurangzeb who killed Sambhaji Bhosale.

On the other hand, Congress is against the campaign to rename the city as it will not help the people in any way. The chief of the Maharashtra wing of Congress reciprocated the same and said they will not support the proposal.

Adding further, Maharashtra Congress chief Balasaheb Thorat earlier this week said that, Congress won't believe in the idea of changing names, and changing the names of the city will not yield any development.
