Amaravati Row: HC Wants Status Report from AP Govt!

The sensitive topic of the Amaravati Capital issue had reached the Andhra Pradesh High Court one more time. Unhappy with the government not implementing the court orders, the Amaravati farmers have knocked on the doors of the High Court with contempt of court petition.

The petitioners had mentioned in the plea that earlier, the court directed the Andhra Pradesh government to develop the Amaravati as the capital area and hand over the plots to Amaravati farmers who gave their plots. Having said that, they alleged that the government did not start any work there.

Hearing the arguments, the High Court served a summons to the government and asked it to file a report on the works in the capital region. The next hearing in the case was adjourned to July.

A bunch of petitions were filed in the court. The petitioners told the court that even after receiving directives from the court, the government did not provide the basic facilities in the capital region and dubbed it a contempt of court.

It has to be mentioned here that earlier in March this year, the High Court said that Amaravati should be developed as the capital and the farmers who gave their lands should be handed over the developed plots.
