The rise in Mucormycosis (black fungus) cases in the country has been ringing the danger bells. The deadly virus, that is found in recovered patients of Covid-19 has been spreading to one after the other state.

Following the virus scare, the Rajasthan government has declared the fungus as an epidemic. The development came when the state holds nearly 100 cases of black fungus cases.

Rajasthan State Principal Health Secretary Akhil Arora issued a notification, declaring black fungus as an epidemic. The orders were issued, under the Rajasthan Epidemic Act 2020

To see that the black fungus patients are treated, a special ward at the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur has been dedicated to this. The Health Secretary said the decision was taken to provide dedicated treatment.

As per the data shared by the Union Government, the black fungus was detected in states like Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar so far.

Though the fungus is found mainly in the recovered patients of Covid, diabetic patients and people with weak immune system need extra protection as the two groups are vulnerable to the virus.
