Update: 2020-11-12 14:52 GMT
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled the statue of a renowned Indian monk Swami Vivekananda at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus that was destroyed during violent acts on the campus.

However, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) called for a protest against the unveiling of the statue. The students' union alleged that the Union government led by Prime Minister supported the violence on the University campuses.

The virtual ceremony was held at Jawaharlal Nehru University’s administration block at around 6:30 PM. Narendra Modi unveiled a life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda in the ceremony.

Well, the University students criticizing the Union Government led by Narendra Modi is not the first time. Be it farmer suicides or the attacks on Social Justice the University students have criticized the government.

Looking at Swami Vivekanada's statue, the statue is believed to have been defaced reportedly in November 2019, and the statue was veiled with a saffron cloth. A case was also registered.
