Special Status issue rocks Andhra Assembly

Update: 2016-09-08 10:23 GMT
Statement of Arun Jaitley on Wednesday night had a huge impact on the Assembly proceedings.

TDP Government agreed to hold the Assembly session only for three days. Main Opposition YSR Congress tried its best to irk the Ruling Party by highlighting its failure in achieving Special Status. YCP Lawmakers faulted Arun Jaitley late night announcement and Chandrababu Naidu's acceptance.

Soon after the session began, YSRC MLAs demanded State Government to discuss about Special Status in the House. Assembly Affairs Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu told permission wouldn't be granted unless State Government issues an official statement on this matter. Later, Bonda Uma and Achham Naidu lashed out at Opposition MLAs. Bonda Uma accused YCP lacked the sincerity on Special Status. 'If Jagan is really sincere, Why didn't he staged a dharna before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence?,' he questioned.

In response, Jagan reminded Bonda Uma about the resolution passed in AP Assembly supporting Special Status. 'How can Naidu welcome the announcement of Arun Jaitley?,' asked YCP Chief. That's when Yanamala intervened to remind Jagan that discussion on Special Status willn't be allowed unless AP Govt makes an official announcement. Even Speaker Kodela faulted the the manner in which Opposition MLAs disrupted the proceedings. 'YCP MLAs remain silent only when Jagan speaks. They don't anyone from ruling party to speak. Even they weren't cooperating with the Assembly staff,' he complained.

As YCP MLAs continued to stall the proceedings, Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
