The death of 41-year-old George Floyd two months ago has sparked national and international protests against racism and police brutality. Now, a similar incident came to light which was happened on 23 March.
Daniel Prude, who had mental health issues, died after being put in a spit hood, by police officers in order to protect them from detainees' saliva. The details only came to light on Wednesday after the police body camera video was released through a public records request.
After the incident came to people knowledge, the city mayor suspended seven police officers who are involved in the death of Prude.
"Mr. (Daniel) Prude lost his life in our city. He lost his life because of the actions of our police officers," Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren said. Meanwhile, family members are calling for the officers to be fired and arrested.
